From milestones to evidence, from evidence to payment

CONTRATERRAIN works, and has been tested end to end — from enrolling the people on site to payment confirmed by both parties. It has not yet been used on a real site: the first will be run with you, on works of your choosing.
The problem
A client pays for works they have not seen, on the strength of photographs sent by messaging app.
A local council orders a boundary wall for a health centre. Halfway through, the contractor asks for the second instalment: the foundations are said to be done. The mayor was not there. They receive three photographs, taken who knows when or where, which will be lost in a chat thread within a fortnight. They pay, or they do not — and either way, no one will be able to demonstrate anything if a disagreement arises.
The idea: three states of the same works
Where the other tools prove attendance, this one proves progress, by holding together three images of the same milestone: the initial state captured before anything begins, today’s evidence submitted from the site, and the target agreed by the parties.
The original contract remains the source of the commitment; these three images are only its visual translation.
Progress is not compliance
A milestone is approved only if progress is complete and quality is compliant. A wall built along its full length but out of plumb is finished and non-compliant: the milestone stays open, the payment stays blocked.
Most tools conflate these two measures. This one keeps them apart.
Payment happens elsewhere, and is confirmed from both sides
The client pays by the means set out in the contract, outside the application. They declare that they have done so and attach the receipt; the payee confirms receipt. If the two accounts diverge, the payment is marked disputed.
The application never holds the funds. It records that both parties say the same thing.
Evidence is not a photograph
A file captured inside the application is distinguished from one picked out of a gallery: the second is accepted and kept, but carries the label “authenticity not guaranteed”. Evidential standing is never granted on a mere declaration.
What CONTRATERRAIN refuses to do
- No calculation approves a milestone or authorises a payment. Assisted visual comparison is a guide displayed alongside the human decision, never inside it — and it refuses to claim a precision it does not have.
- It creates no clause and does not alter the original contract.
- It settles no dispute: it preserves the evidence of both parties. The law of the country of performance prevails.
Seeing CONTRATERRAIN at work
No public demonstration is open, and that is deliberate: this product is judged on real works, not on an example. Evidence from a site means nothing away from its site. The demonstration therefore starts from yours — a wall, a track, a borehole — and follows a real milestone through to payment.
